Managing Stress and Avoiding Burnout
Some pressure in our environment can be very motivating, and we actually need it to perform within our zone of peak performance. However, we weren’t designed to cope well with prolonged periods of stress.
When we work in hectic environments it’s easy to fall into the trap of expending more energy than we gain. When we do that continuously it can lead to chronic stress, which affects memory, concentration, mathematical ability, language processing and our immune response.
Not only does chronic stress cause havoc with our health and wellbeing, it also prevents from being the leader could be and showing up in the most resourceful way.

Learning to take the warning signs seriously
When something happens that causes us stress, it's easy to blame external factors. But although the external environment plays a role, we all have to take responsibility for how we let the environment affect us. To get better at managing stress we have to challenge our habits and beliefs. We also have to take the warning signs seriously, including aches and pains, and not being able to sit still for a couple of minutes without fidgeting or checking the phone.
In our stress management workshops, Susanne creates a safe space for teams to open up, learn about the warning signs and take part in a discussion about how to overcome it. As a result people walk away with actionable steps that help them take control of their stressful thoughts, emotions and environments straight away.

As an experienced project manager of large change programs, Susanne has first-hand experience of how stressful project management can be. Almost all project managers have experienced stress on their projects and far too many suffer from ill health as a result. Wow. That’s all I can say is Wow! We had so many members say they were up late that night writing down thoughts about how they could implement Susanne’s ideas on how to handle stress and avoid burnout. - László J.Kremmer, President, PMI Budapest Hungarian Chapter
